Christy Schlake is the fearless leader of WriterGirl & Associates. She provides senior-level strategic counsel for WriterGirl clients. She is an expert in content and training for business-to-business and consumer initiatives. She is also well versed in web-based and print marketing collateral. With this diverse background, why does Christy choose to specialize in the hospital industry? She is passionate about patient content. She remembers exactly what it’s like to hear a bad diagnosis for a family member…and how it feels to leave a doctor’s office overwhelmed. Therefore, Christy encourages all WriterGirl associates to put themselves in the position of the patient, and to write from that perspective.
Christy has developed WriterGirl into the only U.S. company that helps medical professionals effectively and efficiently create website content and printed materials to communicate their valuable points of difference in an unbelievably noisy marketplace. She is committed to creating content that helps patients—people who are, by definition, usually in crisis—feel more equipped to make decisions about whatever health issue they’re facing.

Kris Martin holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature, with post baccalaureate studies in Marketing Management, Financial Accounting and Fine Arts. She has more than 15 years of experience in corporate marketing, primarily in the field of health care, all of which she uses in her day-to-to activities as senior writer, editor and project lead for WriterGirl. Kris’s down-to-earth sensibility and practical nature are the perfect fit for WriterGirl. That nature—and her sense of humor—allow her to overlook nonsense and get to the meat of an issue quickly, whether it’s keeping an unwieldy project on scope, patiently tracking down a physician in order to gather content vital for the completion of a project, or creating copy that is perfectly succinct and to the point—every time.
Her writing experience is broad, and she’s used her quick grasp of complex material and creativity on projects that include physician websites, clinical materials for the pharmaceutical industry, service line website content, internal communications for hospital systems, physician recruitment materials and accomplishment reports. In addition to her client work, Kris also creates WriterGirl marketing materials such as sales presentations and capabilities pieces.

Crysta Parks-McCray began her writing career when she served as the Director of Operations for a local start-up company. Building a business from the ground up gave her the opportunity to wear many hats and to develop a variety of skills, including discovering a passion—and a talent—for writing. Crysta cut her writing teeth developing marketing materials, operations and training manuals, newsletters, and website content for the start-up operation.
She moved on to a full-time writing position with a computer company whose main offering is software as a service. In this capacity, one of Crysta’s responsibilities was gathering the source content and writing an extensive “Help” document designed to assist clients in operating the company’s software—no simple task. Not only did she have to learn to use the software herself, but she also had to create easy-to-read, simple, step-by-step user instructions.
Crysta also created the operations manual for this company (a much simpler task, by comparison), wrote website content for several of their clients, as well as creating press releases and print marketing materials.
In addition to being her career, writing is also Crysta’s hobby. She has had various articles published, and has written children’s stories for her daughter. Her goal is to have one of her children’s books published.
